Todd is my friend, but PEW Science is independent, and for Todd to tell me that my data passes muster, is important.

I hope this helps people and the data is meaningful.īy the way, when Todd Magee and I were speaking yesterday about the performance of the Sandman series of silencers, he indicated that my test results were consistent with his performance design philosophy results for the silencers and that he designed them to be both "hushy and flowy" and he told me to quote him on that. However, as the differences are measurable, they are noteworthy, especially given the difference in suppression performance, for those three extremely low back pressure configurations. Keep in mind that the back pressure data is preliminary and all the back pressure relations shown in today's review comparison are of silencers with low back pressure, so minute changes in the back pressure prediction metric in that bar chart may not indicate significantly different back pressure performance in practical use. The Sandman-K data published today indicates that it has lower back pressure than the Helios with the vented end-cap and the short configuration of the Radiant, but has better suppression, which is noteable. It may help your decision making process for your desired use case(s). Just throwing it out there for your consideration.

I produced the data so that the consumers and industry can see the true performance.

There is free and open comparison of the Sandman-S, Sandman-K, Helios QD in solid and vented configuration, and other silencers, at PEW Science. Yes, the Helios is one of the most impressive silencers I have tested. There are plenty of hard use suppressors on the market, but the Sandman-S is definitely one of the top designs in my opinion. Considering many people are switching to KeyMo, I don't see the integral mounting system as a drawback at all. Most people seem to have shifted to the Nomad, but I still prefer the Sandman-S due to the Stellite baffles and integral mounting system. I can never remember the name of the company, but someone else should chime in shortly. In all fairness, I haven't really done any night shooting with them yet, my observations are mainly based on dim, overcast days.ĭead Air's three prong flash hider seems to work well by itself, and there is also someone making an A2 style flash hider that looks nice. I have one on my Sandman-K, but haven't felt the need for one on the Sandman-S. If muzzle flash is a major concern, they also offer a flash hider front end cap. The Sandman-K has considerable flash, but the Sandman-S seems to eliminate most, if not all of it in my experience. 300 Blackout is the only one with an AGB, and that was only to help tune between subs and supers. It was also specifically designed for low back pressure, and I haven't had any gas issues at all on 5.56 or 6.5 Grendel, even running standard gas blocks.

The Sandman-S is probably one of the most durable suppressors on the market, thanks to the full Stellite baffle stack.
